Today’s daily prompt: Tart
Fruit tarts aside, the word “tart” can be used to describe a person who is “sharp in character, spirit or expression; cutting; biting”.
I read this definition and I think to myself: am I not like that? Isn’t everybody a little bit like that?
People who use sarcasm like a second language, people who don’t naturally act sweet or gentle, people whose personalities are just a tiny bit… sour – that’s tart.
People who don’t beat around the bush, who say the harsh truth as it is and expect other people to simply accept it coolly – that’s tart too. Their personalities are prickly, like a cactus. Some people don’t want to get too close to it.
We must remind ourselves that no one is just one thing. There is nobody who is just tart and nothing else. We all have our sweet sides and moments, just like how someone who is generally sweet can be sour sometimes too.
He was like her favorite type of candy, she realized, a bit sour at first but all sweetness in the long run. Admittedly . . . that tartness was part of the allure all along.
